NASPA's international exchange program has been in existence since the mid-1990s. The program is designed to expose administrators to global practices of student affairs and services. The exchange program is reciprocal in nature where NASPA coordinates delegations from the USA to be hosted by institutions in other countries and NASPA sister associations coordinate delegations to visit the USA. Delegations typically consist of 3-5 senior level administrators and are one week in duration.
The dates of the exchange are typically chosen well in advance and delegates must be available during the agreed upon time frame. Once delegates are selected they are introduced to one another electronically. There is one lead delegate who helps coordinate details of the exchange, such as gifts for the hosts, some communications, etc. All NASPA "out-bound" delegates sign agreements to reciprocally host delegates from other countries at their institution, at their cost, at a later date.
