Mark your calendars and register now for the 2017 AL-NASPA Drive-In Conference on Friday, January 20, 2017! Student Affairs professionals from across the state will come together to learn from one another, discuss the critical issues impacting our field, and fellowship with new and established colleagues. Birmingham-Southern College will serve as our host so we are looking forward to being back in Birmingham, AL!

For new professionals and graduate students, we will also host our 6th annual New Educators Institute, a half-day pre-conference, on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For early bird registrants, your pre-conference fee is waived for the New Educators Institute so sign-up by December 31, 2016 to take advantage of the savings.

Call for Programs

Whether you're an established professional or new to the field, you have something to share with our community. Reflect on current issues impacting our field, consider showcasing programs/initiatives that have met with particular success on your campus, or simply expand on a personal or professional passion area so that others may learn from and with you during our time together.

Submitting conference proposals can feel intimidating and overwhelming, but your thoughts and ideas are critical to the advancement of our work. Please don't silence your voice before we get the chance to evaluate your proposal on its merits. In your proposal, please be clear in your program title and description what you will cover and how it relates to our work.

New Educators Institute

The New Educators Institute is designed for graduate students and new professionals. The half-day workshop runs from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2017. Lunch is provided along with a reception on Thursday evening following the institute.

The New Educators Institute provides the following insights:

  • an overview and trajectory of the evolving profession of Student Affairs/Student Services
  • profiles of the future students the profession must support
  • specific ways to become an effective student affairs scholar
  • an understanding of a Student Affairs “educator/scholar” vs. a Student Affairs “professional”
  • opportunities to find professional mentors
  • in-depth discussion of the terminal degree in the profession
  • clear instructions on how to implement assessment in all programming activities
  • opportunities to network with educators throughout Alabama.

Registration Policy:

Online registration will close on January 16, 2017. On-site registration WILL be available based on capacity.

Payment Policy:


If you are paying by check, please send it to the address below. Include your name and order number on the check.

Changes in payment method or credit card after initial payment is processed are NOT permitted, no exceptions. Please be sure that you are using the appropriate credit card for this transaction.

Cancellation Policy:

The cancellation deadline is January 16, 2017. All requests for cancellations must be in writing and sent to Ben Newhouse at bnewhous@bsc.edu. A $50 cancellation fee will be deducted for professionals and a $25 cancellation fee will be deducted from student refunds.

Refund Policy:

No refunds will be provided after January 16, 2017.
