  • Creating opportunities for self-reflection, networking, and big-picture thinking;
  • Facilitating an interactive learning environment where mid-level managers can discuss current topics;
  • Providing participants the opportunity to reflect on their mid-level experience with an SSAO; examining the career path, with emphasis on identifying one's own preparedness to pursue opportunities to advance to the next level.

 Mid-Level Institute Testimonies

"The Mid-Level Institute refueled my fire and passion for the field of higher education. As an introvert, the program allowed me to learn from seasoned professionals, challenge my philosophies, and network with colleagues while traveling our region. The topics were relevant, the institute was innovative and sparked my drive to further engage with NASPA. Years later, the relationships I started in MLI have evolved into friendships, have allowed me to have familiar faces in the region, and provide an outlet for professional advice and mentorship when needed. Best professional decision I've made to explore both my personal and professional growth." Lucas Malo, Director of Community Service, Brandies University

“I really loved participating in MLI. Over my last 9 years in higher ed, I feel like all of my trainings and professional development have been about improving my programs, gaining knowledge in the field and learning to be a better manager. MLI was the first time in years where I felt like I focused on my own development as a professional in the field and it was so refreshing. I loved hearing about others’ career paths and carving out the time to think about where I’m headed and how to get there. I as so grateful for the network I created through this experience, and know I can rely on my new friends and colleagues to serve as sounding boards and advisors.” Hilary Sullivan, Director of Co-Curricular Service Programs, Northeastern University “The mid-level institute was one of the best professional development experiences I have had in my career. The speakers and topics were engaging and informative—providing lots of relevant insight that I could bring back and use on a regular basis. Most of all it was a fantastic opportunity to meet and get to know colleagues from around the region that I may not have met otherwise. Overall, the institute was a fun and impactful experience!” Stephanie Crane, Associate Director for Housing and Operations, Becker College

"My experience with the Mid-Level Institute was outstanding. The workshop topics were very relevant and useful. I was able to take back what I learned and apply it immediately in my current job. But by far the best part is the social networking. Our cohort was both diverse and open. By sharing our experiences, expectations, and hopes for the future we all came together to help each other. These are now friends I know I can call on should the need arise." Dan Graney, Director of Substance Abuse Prevention, University of Rhode Island
