Careers in Student Affairs Month

Careers in Student Affairs (CSAM) is a month-long initiative, each October. CSAM is dedicated to the celebration of a career in student affairs, education and awareness in the profession, and engagement with professional associations and peers in the field. More directly, the goals of Careers in Student Affairs Month are to:

  • Celebrate the field of student affairs through opportunities to reflect on individual journeys and experiences
  • Provide professional development for student affairs administrators in higher education
  • Encourage and promote the profession in order to grow the field of student affairs
  • Cultivate spaces for dialogue related to pertinent topics within student affairs

This year, the theme for #CSAM19 is Inclusion, Innovation, Impact. Student affairs professionals have made a commitment to have a positive impact on students and on the field as a whole.  This Careers in Student Affairs Month, we empower and encourage our members of every professional level to share their intentions and passion for the field.  Why did you choose student affairs? Why have you continued in the field? Why are you passionate about student affairs and what have been your experiences?  How does your work resonate across the field? How can you expand on the cross functional work you are doing?

During #CSAM19, NASPA will be providing a number of free professional development opportunities for student affairs administrators on their respective campuses. These include the following:

  • Live briefings on relevant topics throughout the month
  • Blogs posted to the NASPA website
  • A weekday photo challenge

We invite you to submit a blog for the blog series or proposal for a live briefing!

Call for Online Briefings and Blog Submissions

Programs submitted through this call for programs will be considered for presentation or publication during October 2019.  Programs are asked to be open for all professional levels centered on the impact of higher education/student affairs throughout and beyond the field.  In preparing your submission, please include how this content will target various audiences and fit the topic for #CSAM19.  Sample topics for this year’s series could include Campus Engagement with Local or Statewide Nonprofits or Working with and Supporting Undocumented Students.
