DEEP in the HEART of Texas, Home of the Alamo, The River Walk, Six Flags, Sea World, McNay Art Museum, the Natural Bridge Caverns, and so much more.
Just in case you haven’t heard yet, NASPA’s 99th Annual Conference in 2017 will be in San Antonio, Texas. The beautiful Henry B. Gonzάlez Convention Center will be our home base for what promises to be another exciting and unique conference experience. The conference committee has been working together since last fall and will now begin their work in earnest following the exceptional example of the 2016 committee led by Frank Ross. (Certainly a tough act to follow!)
And as we wind up our time in Indianapolis and set our sights on San Antonio, YOUR work begins in earnest as well. It’s time to start planning your program proposal ideas. The 99th annual conference will be focused on NASPA’s four guiding principles: Integrity, Innovation, Inclusion, and Inquiry. How have you engaged in authentic, just, and ethical leadership? What are the ways in which you and your colleagues have created substantial change? How has your work positively impacted diverse students and their experiences on your campus? In what form have you shared the results of your work? The conference website (http://conference2017.naspa.org/) is up and ready so take a look when you have a minute.
In planning for the 2017 conference we want to know what inspired you while you were in Indy. Did you sit in a session and think about all you could share? Write it down so you don’t forget!! We all get busy in our professional and personal lives and inevitably things fall through the cracks. Program proposals can be just another thing on our to do list that don’t get crossed off. And if you are like me, you LOVE to cross of things on your list, although admittedly sometimes I can’t find the darn list! The call for programs opens on May 16 and submissions are due by September 2.
The 2017 Conference Leadership Committee is ready to go. We are solidifying subcommittees and making plans. We were all there in Indy – watching, taking notes, talking to colleagues. We will be reviewing the evaluations from Indy to get your feedback. We are ready to hit the ground running toward San Antonio. From where I sit right this minute in Worcester, MA that’s 2004.5 miles. It feels like such a long run, however we all know we will be there before we know it! And so we’re off! See you along the way!
