San Antonio is home to both public and private colleges and universities that include a renowned research institution, prestigious private and public institutions, and some of the best Hispanic and minority serving institutions in the country. This tour will take you to visit four diverse and distinctive campuses and introduce you to academic programs and services that help to mold future leaders, workers and innovators.
Tour Schedule – Order of Campus Visits
The campus tours will kick off with breakfast stop and tour at the University of Texas at San Antonio. By mid-morning, the group will visit St. Mary's University and reach Trinity University by lunch time. The final campus tours stop will be at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, the newest institution of higher education in the city.
Each campus will highlight different aspect of the higher education landscape.
Whether your interest lies in touring historic academic facilities, centers of innovation, services for special populations or campus life facilities, this tour will exceed your expectations.
The University of Texas at San Antonio
Tour Focus: University Center, One Stop Enrollment Center, Student Housing
Participants will have the opportunity to tour the University Centers including innovative meeting rooms, lounge space and solar panels. They will also take a peek at on campus residence hall – Alvarez Hall and the One Stop Enrollment Center providing registrations, admissions and financial aid services in one convenient location.
The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) is an emerging Tier One research institution specializing in health, energy, security, sustainability, and human and social development. With nearly 29,000 students, it is the largest university in the San Antonio metropolitan region.
Tour Focus: Center for Sciences and Innovation
Home to eight academic departments, the McNair Scholars Program, and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Center for the Sciences & Innovation is Trinity’s hub for collaborative learning and productive collisions. Students and faculty across all disciplines utilize the building to experience hands-on, research-based education. At nearly 280,000 square feet, CSI houses 43 research labs and 24 teaching labs, as well as an engineering studio, greenhouse, green roof, and vivarium.
Trinity University is located in the heart of San Antonio, Texas, approximately three miles north of downtown. The Trinity Pathways curriculum blends the liberal arts and sciences with business and pre-professional programs, enriching students’ writing, speaking, and problem-solving skills. The University equips 2,400 students through experiential learning, undergraduate research, and international engagement, preparing them to be global stewards for change.
Saint Mary’s University
Tour Focus: St. Louis Hall
Participants will have the chance to tour historic St. Louis Hall on the campus of St. Mary’s. Because of downtown crowding, in 1891 the Marianists purchased 75 acres northwest of the city to build a school for boarding students. The purchase price was $1 on the condition the school be built quickly. St. Louis College – renamed St. Mary’s University in 1923 opened its doors in 1894. Today, St. Louis Hall is a hub for administration and faculty offices.
St. Mary’s University was founded in 1852 by Marianist brothers and priests, and is the first institution of higher learning in San Antonio and the oldest Catholic university in Texas and the Southwest.
Texas A&M University San Antonio
Tour Focus: Patriots Casa
Don’t miss this opportunity to tour the newest campus in San Antonio and its innovative facility that is home to their “military embracing” philosophy – Patriots Casa. The mission of the Patriots' Casa is to provide academic, life, and career skills support for student veterans, military personnel and their military families enrolled at our university. The Casa's dual purpose is to help ensure our students in the military community and their families achieve their academic objectives and are equipped for post-graduation success.
Texas A&M University - San Antonio is the first four-year institution of higher education located in the historically underserved South San Antonio. With an inaugural freshman class of over 500 students, Texas A&M - San Antonio provides affordable higher education opportunities to students from over 76 counties in the Texas. Currently serving nearly 5,500 students, the student body is 63% female and 70% Hispanic, and approximately 64% of students are the first in their family to attend college.
